Who Should Apply

Education without values,
as useful as it is, seems rather to
make man a more clever devil.
~ C. S. Lewis

Is John Adams College Right For You?

John Adams College is not for students seeking the path of least resistance.

It is for those who feel an internal pressure to understand the world at its roots and who are willing to endure intellectual difficulty in pursuit of that understanding.

Admission is not based on test scores, pedigree, or ideology. It is based on evidence of curiosity, resilience, and the willingness to engage seriously with demanding ideas.

What Students Should Expect

  • A reading load far heavier than most colleges
  • Persistent intellectual challenge
  • Frequent disagreement and debate
  • High Expectations
  • Little hand-holding

Those seeking credentialing or rapid specialization should pursue excellent conventional institutions. Those seeking transformation may belong here.

Those who thrive here tend to find other educational environments under-stimulating. Those who do not should pursue other excellent, more conventional institutions, which serve their purposes well.

There is a magic in having professors
who are well-read and as such can

assign deep, thought-provoking books.
My experience at John Adams College
has taught me not what to think
but how to think.
~ Jeremiah R
